The Love and Serve Haiti Project 2012
Through HAUP (Haitian-Americans United for Progress), twenty-five youth, ages 16+, will work intensively with Art in Motion to help and better understand the local youths at the Pou Soley Leve Schools this August in Haiti. The American youths will get the benefit of a comprehensive ten-day visit to be exposed to Haitian history, culture and politics and the visit will allow the youths to bear witness to the country's current reality. Visits with community leaders and others involved in health, education and related fields will be paired with visits to quake refugee settlements, schools and orphanages.
Art in Motion, in partnership with HAUP and Pou Soley Leve, will hold art workshops - teaching and feeding more than 200 children from Pou Soley Leve's Schools in Haiti; Foyer Chretien de Sarazin, Pou Soley Leve at Guibert and Ecole Communautaire de Sion a Masson.
Art in Motion instructors will also identify approximately twenty children (ages 4-8 years old), who excel in utilizing art to showcase their inner beauty. These children will also participate in a children's couture fashion photo-campaign sponsored by Petit Catou Wear.
The children's beauty campaign will be submitted to Rebelle Haiti Magazine locally, along with select international fashion and lifestyle publications to help raise awareness and funds for a new Pou Soley Leve/HAUP school in Port-Au-Prince.
Photos from the campaign and original artworks from the workshops, will be auctioned off at exhibits in both Haiti and New York City as part of the fundraising efforts.
The upcoming event to be held on August 7th, in New York City will raise funds to support the above-mentioned art/fashion project and the development of the new Pou Soley Leve/HAUP school in Haiti.
