I.S College Fashion News: Fashion Students Show Off Their Work on the Catwalk at University of Edinburgh

CUTTING-edge designs by some of Scotland’s brightest fashion talent will be premiered at the University of Edinburgh tomorrow.

The Edinburgh College of Art Fashion Show, one of the capital’s cultural highlights, is returning to the catwalk this year in a new home to celebrate the work of graduating students.

The University of Edinburgh’s Playfair Library will host one of Scotland’s largest fashion events for the first time from 23-25 May*.

Photographers and film crews are invited to preview a selection of the fashion student’s work worn by professional models at the University of Edinburgh’s Informatics Forum. Students and tutors will be available for interview.

The final 17 collections will include a diverse range of designs whose inspiration includes comic book heroes, urban subcultures, as well as the Baroque architecture of Dumfries House and hidden Tuscan archways.

One student, Louise Bennetts, is one of only eight finalists recently nominated for the prestigious British Fashion Council Nicole Fahri Award.

Nine shows will be held over three days in May. Each dramatic multi-media performance will feature outfits from students studying fashion, performance costume, and textiles.

To mark the College’s recent merger with the University, this year’s Fashion Show will take place in the Playfair Library at Old College.

Fashion show director Robert Gillan, and Associate Head of the College’s School of Design, said: “We are looking forward to showcasing the exceptional range of work designed and produced by this years graduating cohort in the magnificent Playfair Library.  The staff and students have been working extremely hard to ensure that our inaugural show at the University will be our best ever.”
