Mary J. Murphy, a 2012 graduate of the Tisch School of the Arts, has been named one of 15 nationwide recipients of this year's Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Arts Award. Sponsored by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, the award supports college seniors and recent graduates with significant financial need who will pursue a graduate or professional degree in the visual arts, performing arts, or creative writing.
The awards are worth up to $50,000 per year for up to three years of study at an accredited graduate school in the U.S. or abroad.
A Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholar at NYU, Murphy graduated from TSOA in May with a BFA in Dramatic Writing and a double minor in Philosophy and Creative Writing. She plans to pursue an MFA in creative writing.
Murphy, a native of South Carolina, was also a recipient of a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, which she used to study at NYU London.
